Placer County

While there are no signature varieties in Placer County, most wineries do produce Zinfandel and Rhône varieties. The majority of wineries in the region were established within the past 20 years and few specialize in a particular focus, while others offer more than 15 different varietal wines.  The general features of these wines are that they are limited production mountain/foothill wines with intense character resulting from the unique climate and alluvial soils of the Sierra Foothills. The wines are easily accessed by the tourists passing through the region on their way to ski and gamble in the Lake Tahoe area.
