Benchmark Wineries

Flowers Vineyards

Among the first wineries in the region, Flowers’ Camp Meeting Ridge Vineyard was planted in 1991.

Hirsch Vineyards

David Hirsch planted the first vines in his extreme coastal location in 1980. The property’s undulating terrain creates distinct microclimates, resulting in substantial differences from block to block.

Joseph Phelps

Though best known as a Napa Valley producer, Joseph Phelps has owned top-quality vineyards in the Freestone area since 1999.

Occidental

The newest of the benchmark wineries, Occidental was founded by the Kistler family in 2011. It makes only Pinot Noir in the Freestone-Occidental area.

Peay

Founded almost 25 years ago, Peay produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah from their estate vineyard, about four miles from the ocean.
